All IP Applications must be submitted to the Algerian Institute of Intellectual Property (INAPI).

Trademark

  • Time frame to complete the process is 18 to 24 months.
  • Registered trademarks in Algeria are valid for 10 years from the filing date.
  • The renewal application must be filed within 6 months before expiration date.
  • A grace period of 6 months is allowed for filing a renewal application accompanied by the evidence of use of a trademark.

Copyright

  • Time frame to complete the process 18 months.

Patent

  • Time frame to grant of a patent is 5 years.
  • Registered patent is valid for 20 years from the date of filing.
  • The annuities are due every year counting from the filing date. Late payment of the annuity fees is allowed within 6 months with penalty.

Industrial Design

  • Time frame to complete the process is 1 year from the filing date.
  • Registered Industrial Design is valid for 10 years from the filing date.
  • The request for an extension of the protection period may be made either at the time of filing or within 6 months before the last year period expires.
